LMU-MMI Kopfbereich

Emergency Medicine

The first German doctor based ambulance service was established in Munich in the 1960s. This has resulted in the establishment of a center of excellence for trauma care at LMU Munich. On average a doctor is currently on the site of an accident in less than seven minutes. This is due to a very efficient response system and a proficient training scheme of all physicians participating in the service. Emergency medicine in Germany is carried out in an interdisciplinary approach, directly involving all sub-specialties.
Every program participant will become part of the trauma team and thus can benefit from the high skill set available from this service.

Characteristics of the Emergency Service:

  • Full EMS programs staffed by two physicians
  • One hospital-based EMS (Helicopter program)
  • Special physician-staffed trauma management
  • Recovery at scene of accident and initial management
  • Transportation
  • Emergency room management
  • Primary and secondary surgical treatment
  • Specific intensive trauma care
