Various national and international interdisciplinary projects on computer-aided case-based teaching and assessment (development and integration of the CASUS learning system), with support from University of Munich Society, Robert Bosch Foundation, Virtual University of Bavaria, BMBF, DFG, EU and others, average external funding since 1994 approximately 250,000 EUR/year (approximately 4 million EUR overall).

International university cooperation and student exchange programs, funded by the EU (DG XXII, exchanges with universities in Copenhagen, Denmark, Lund, Sweden and Cornell, Dartmouth and Harvard Medical School, USA) and the DAAD (UNIBRAL, exchange with the Univ. Fed. de Roraima, Boa Vista, Brazil).

Participation in two EU projects (Electronic Virtual Patients (eVIP) and Diabetes Prevention (IMAGE)), a BMBF project "Empirical Research in Education" (gaining professional communication skills (ProfKom)) and a project with INSTAND eV on virtual round robin tests "Medical interpretation of round robin test results - Internet-based case reports and virtual round robin tests in external quality control of medical laboratory results (MIR-CASE)), with a total of about 900,000 EUR of funding acquired for the University of Witten/Herdecke since 10.01.2008.
